COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE

Computer architecture is the field of study of selecting and interconnecting hardware components to create computers that satisfy functional performance and cost goals. It concerns with internal hardware and software that determines the performance and capability of a computer.

  • PROCESSOR: centre for mqnipulation and control
  • MEMORY: storage for instructions and data for currently executing programs
  • I/O SYSTEM: controller which communicate with "external" devices; secondary memory, display devices, networks
  • DATA PATH & CONTROL: collection of parallel wires, transmit data, instruction, or control signal
COMPUTER PROCESSING POWER

  • Speed is measured in hertz(Hz) that is cycles per sec.
  • Capacity is measured in bytes(B) where 1 byte = 8bits
